Communicative Tools
Second
tools that we have learnt is Communicative tools. It is the systems
that mediate communication between the teacher and students or
among students beyond the physical barrier (either by space, time or
both) of
the classroom. Examples of communicative tools include email, electronic
bulletin boards, chat, teleconferencing, electronic whiteboards, G-mail,
Skype,
etc.
We have learned two
types of communications,
1.
Synchronous
(also called real time, in which users must be simultaneously connected, rather
like a telephone call). It enables real time communication. It is used for
instructional activities that require higher degree of interaction. It helps
solving urgent problems/issues. Examples: Chat, telephone call, video
conferencing.
2.
Asynchronous
(not required the people communicating to be logged on the internet at the same
time). This type of communications is appropriate for activities that requires
more time in thinking before responding. Examples: e-mail, electronic bulletin
boards, vle discussion forum, we chat, blog, wiki, etc.
Then we have learned some of the difficulties of asynchronous such as discussion
boards/blogs/vle posts fail to maintain the interest (minimum frequency),
checking all those posts in vle/blogs/discussion boards is an additional tasks and
the difficulties of synchronous communication such as multiple threats of
discussion are difficult to follow, slow connection distracts and fail to keep
abreast of interest, difficult to give quick comments by slow computer users. Then
we have learnt about blog as a communication tools. Blog is an online journal or
informational website displaying information in the reverse chronological
order. Examples of popular Bhutanese blog, Tshering Tobgay
blog:http://www.tsheringtobgay.com/, Passang Tshering blog, http://www.passudiary.com/.
Some
of reasons for using blogs in education are, it motivates students to become
batter readers and writers, promotes discussion among students, promotes
autonomous learning by providing opportunities for students to take more
control of their learning, and it also encourages the use of internet and the
web among students and teachers.
You have clearly mention the importance of communication in today's world and how it helps to convey the messages. Moreover, you also mention the communication role related to ICT and the how it helps in our life.
